Hi girl gang! Today I’m here to chat about the amazing Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil. Never heard of it? Neither had I until I discovered the amazing world of Korean skincare.

Klairs is a vegan brand that puts the skin first. Because skin is their first priority, like many Korean brands, their focus is on clean, gentle, and effective beauty. You’re not going to find a 20% AHA exfoliate in their product line. Instead, you’ll be met with clean and effective skin care solutions – which honestly will be better for your skin in the long run 🙂 Klairs is made in Korea and therefore, follows Korean’s regulation laws – which is a relief because Korea is light years ahead of the US when it comes to regulating cosmetics.

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing OilMy favorite part? You guessed it! This brand is dedicated to supplying their clean, vegan, cruelty free products at a reasonable price with the majority of their items being $25 or less. You can find the brand at online at iHerb, Sokoglam, and Ulta. You can find the full list of US retailers on the Klairs website here.

I purchased my bottle of Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil on Sokoglam. It was on sale for about $18 – never pay full price for beauty ladies! I have so much to say about this cleanser, but before I dive into my thoughts let’s go over the ingredients.

  1. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
    • This is an oily liquid made from either coconut oil or palm kernel oil. What’s great about this ingredient is that it’s natural! It also is non-comedogenic meaning that it will not clog your pores.
    • Caprylic/Capric Trigleride works with the skin to create a barrier. This barrier help to keep the skin moisturized by preventing the loss of water from the skin. You can read more about the ingredient here.
  2. Cetyl Ethylhexanoate
    • This is a fatty alcohol that is derived from palm oil. This is a natural ingredient despite the fancy scientific name.
    • This is a skin conditioning ingredient or emollient meaning that is it use to soften and smooth the skin. Cetyl Ethylhexanoate is safe to use on skin and has one of the best safety ratings from the EWG.
  3. Isononyl Isononanoate
    • This is a conditioning emollient that leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized
  4. PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate
    • This is a powerhouse ingredient that acts as an emollient and surfactant. This is great because doubles as a moisturizer and cleaning ingredient – which is exactly what this product does.
  5. Isopropyl Myristate
    • This is a magical ingredient that is able to fill the microscopic cracks between the skin cells to ensure that moisture does not escape. This makes it a perfect ingredient for any one who is suffering from extremely dry or flaky skin. This ingredient also acts as an emollient.
    • Can I say again that this is a magic ingredient?
  6. Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil
    • Jojoba Oil is the closest natural oil to the oil human can produces. This makes it perfect moisturizer for people who suffer from dry skin.
    • In skincare Jojoba oil is great for treating aliments such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis!
    • Jojoba Oil is one of my favorite carrier oils for my DIY recipes.
  7. Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil
    • Soybean oil is rich in Vitamin E which has natural anti-aging benefits
  8. Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil
    • Also packed full with Vitamin E!

      Black Currant Berry
  9. Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil
    • This is the hero ingredient in this cleanser and is rich in fatty acid, antioxidants, and Omega 3,6, and 9
      • Throwing it back to 6th grade science but stay with me! All cells are protected by membranes – you can think of them as the cell’s skin. Omegas are crucial to our cells membranes – but sadly they can be hard to find in the average diet – which is where topical application comes to the rescue!
      • When are cells are happy and have strong membranes they are better able to retain moisture and can even reverse the signs of aging. You can read more about how membranes affect the overall look of your skin here.
    • This ingredient is also know for reducing wrinkles, dullness, improving skin elasticity AND regenerating skin cells.
    • Is there anything Black Currant Seed Oil can’t do?
  10. Tocopheryl Acetate
    • This is another form of vitamin E! Woohoo!
  11. PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate
    • This is an absorption ~enhancer~ which allows all the amazing ingredients we just discussed to penetrate deeper into the skin.

Honorable Mention

  • 13. Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)
    • One of my favorite emollients! Shea butter is fantastic for stretch marks, wrinkles, dry skin, sunburn, and hyperpigmentation.
  • 14. Carapa Guaianensis Seed Oil
    • This oil has anti-inflammatory properties
    • Fun fact this is an natural insect repellent!
  • 15. Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil
    • More Vitamin E and Omega 3,6, and 9! Great stuff.

Final Thoughts

Despite the name this cleanser is not actually black. It’s a clear oil that is beyond moisturizing. I am a huge fan of double cleansing and this is such a treat to my skin in the morning. As an oily girl, you may think that you would want to put less oil on your face but that is actually not the case!

The cleansing oil breaks down the natural oils on my face in the morning. And as soon as you add water to this cleanser it turns into a white milky consistency that instantly strips the skin of the excess natural oils. For this reason it is the perfect cleanser for people with oily skin.

At night, this oil base cleanser breakdowns makeup with ease. If you have never used an oil to remove make up – stop everything and go try now! You can even start with some you have in your pantry like olive or coconut oil – it will change your life.

Ok but not only does this oil cleanser feel good but LOOK at this ingredient list girl. We have coconut oils, oils doubling an emollients and surfactants,  microscopic crack filling oils, oils that pumping your face with fatty acids and rebuilding your skin cell’s membranes, oils that are filled to the brim with Vitamin E! Need I go on? Every ingredient in this bottle has a purpose and that purpose is to natural heal your skin and turn back the clocks of time. We’re talking baby smooth!

Overall, I highly recommend this cleanser for both the quality of the vegan ingredients and the affordable price point. It’s a no brainer. This is a must buy!
